What is Laser Hair Removal?
If you are tired of shaving, waxing, depilatory creams and all of the other hair removal methods which need to be repeated frequently, then laser hair removal is your solution.
Laser Hair Removal is a procedure which helps you get rid of unwanted hairs permanently. The laser emits high intensity light to permanently destroy the hair follicle without causing damage to the surrounding skin.
This procedure needs to be repeated in a number of sessions at regular intervals. The number of required sessions depends on your skin type, hair and area to be treated.
How does Laser Hair Treatment work?
The melanin (colour) in the hair follicle absorbs the laser energy emitted by the laser source. This energy is transformed into heat and causes permanent damage to the hair. The laser beam lasts only for a fraction of a second. This is long enough to damage the follicle while leaving the surrounding tissues intact. The laser light selectively targets and hence damages only the hair and not the skin. This is called ‘selective photothermolysis’.
It is a common assumption that people with dark hair and lighter skin are easier to treat. However, with our laser hair removal technology we can treat people with darker skin types, both safely and effectively. Our treatment is also very effective on ingrown hairs.
How many laser treatments will I need?
Hair grows in cycles and laser damages the follicles during the active cycle of hair growth (anagen). This is why multiple treatments, between 6-8 sessions, are needed. The number of treatments always varies per individual. It depends on the area to be treated, skin colour, hair colour, hair thickness, and any medical conditions.
The treatments are scheduled at regular intervals. When treating body hair, the average interval in between sessions needed is between 6-8 weeks. When treating facial hair we usually leave an interval of 4 weeks. The reason for this is that follicles in this area have a shorter hair cycle.

What should I expect after a laser treatment?
After the treatment you can expect some redness and possibly swelling of the treated area. This should not last more than a day. You can minimize any consequent skin irritation with just the use of ice and some cooling gels. A mild steroid cream may also be prescribed if needed. It is important to apply sunscreen for the weeks after the session.
The hair may take a few days to fall out especially if it is thick. It may also appear to ‘grow again’ a few days after the treatment. This is actually dead hair being pushed out of the skin.
Avoid waxing and plucking hair between treatment sessions since it may affect the hair cycle. You can however shave, trim or depilate any appearing hairs.
